Iris Shun-Ru Chang (1968-2004) was a prominent American journalist, author, and historian. She is best known for her book "The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II," which brought international attention to the atrocities committed by Japanese forces during the Nanking Massacre in 1937. Chang was born on March 28, 1968, in Princeton, New Jersey. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in journalism. After completing her education, she worked as a reporter for several publications, including the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times.
